What is the WORKPLACE SAFETY PROGRAM?
The OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY PROGRAM is a tool developed by Arbeitssicherheit Hillebrand and used in consulting practice to conduct a structured assessment of occupational safety and health in the workplace.
It brings together key occupational safety requirements in a clear and organized format and shows which requirements have already been met and where specific action is needed. This provides management with a concise overview of the current state of occupational safety within the company.
What is being considered?
This section examines the key components of an effective occupational safety and health organization—such as the organization of workplace safety, the Occupational Safety and Health Committee (ASA), workplace inspections, hazard assessments, operating instructions, training sessions, and occupational health services.
This is not merely a matter of whether the required documentation is available. It also involves determining whether the necessary measures have actually been implemented, documented, and are effective in day-to-day operations.
The specific scope depends on the individual workplace and its risk profile. The sample provided here is therefore not an exhaustive, universally applicable checklist, but rather illustrates how the current state of occupational safety can be systematically assessed and evaluated.
Target – Actual – Action.
The WORKPLACE SAFETY PROGRAM is not limited to the question: “Is something in place?”
What is crucial is the systematic comparison between the required target state and the actual existing state.
What is required? What has actually been implemented? Where are the gaps? And what specific actions should be taken as a result?
This makes deviations visible and clearly identifies areas requiring action. Necessary measures can be prioritized, responsibilities assigned, and their implementation reviewed during the next assessment.
A status report thus becomes a management tool for the executive team:
Identify – Decide – Implement – Monitor Progress.
SCORE.
The individual ratings for the PROGRAM are combined into a OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY SCORE . This provides management with an at-a-glance overview of the company’s overall standing in occupational safety.
The SCORE can range from 0 to 10 points . A low score indicates a significant need for action; a rising SCORE shows that defined measures have been implemented and improvements have been achieved.
What matters here is not just the score achieved. SCORE creates transparency, makes trends comparable, and ensures that identified shortcomings do not get lost in the day-to-day operations.
With recurring evaluations, a snapshot turns into a traceable development process: Progress becomes visible—but so does stagnation.
This makes workplace safety measurable, manageable, and consistently trackable for management.
