Occupational safety & impact direction of escape doors

Photo shows an escape route sign, a pictogram with a figure running to the right and an arrow pointing to the right.

When it comes to emergency exit doors, opinions run wild!

"Door must open outwards"

"The building is more than twenty years old, there is grandfathering"

"We know our way around here, we don't have any public traffic"

"The door doesn't have to open outwards for the few people who work here"

"There's the exemption in the workplace law, that suits us"

"This good door was only recently installed, the door fitter is the expert"

"Do you know what the conversion costs!"

"We are only tenants here, the issue of the direction of impact must be clarified by the landlord"

Only one thing is correct:

Without exception, doors that lead to a secured area or to the outside along escape routes must open outwards in the direction of escape.
